About Us
The Resonance Collective exists to inspire and nurture the collective spirit of Los Angeles and beyond by expanding our understanding of the arts as a sacred and mystical experience, through the creation and performance of innovative and adventurous works.
We further this mission through three methods: creation, curation, and education.
The Resonance Collective is not a religious group and we ascribe to no set of specific beliefs; rather, we are a spiritual community of artists, or perhaps an artistic group of seekers. Wherever you find yourself on that spectrum, you are welcome to explore with us as we aim to intertwine our artistic and spiritual practice while considering the question, "what is sacred music?"Our goal is to cultivate curiosity and bring a sense of sacredness to our creative lives in an inspiring and supportive social environment.
When you attend a Resonance Collective event you are not just an audience member but an active participant, and we welcome your involvement as a member of this artistic community.
We further this mission through three methods: creation, curation, and education.
- We create interdisciplinary, theatrical narratives based on spiritual transformation as part of our Original Works program.
- We curate exceptional music from traditions around the world through the Golden Thread Concert Series. Each event extends on the ritual of the traditional concert experience and offers a different perspective on the possibilities of sacred music.
- We educate creative musicians during the annual N.E.O. Voice Festival, a week long celebration of the human voice with a focus on redefining the oratorio as a modern sacred storytelling form, holistic contemporary vocal performance, and compositional techniques.

NEO Voice Festival
The NEO Voice Festival is an annual, week-long event in the summer featuring a series of concerts and workshops focused on exploring the voice. Each year’s festival culminates in the Exploratorio, a new oratorio created by participants of the festival that re-examines facets of traditionally sacred themes. This program is co-directed by David Harris and Laurel Irene in partnership with VoiceScienceWorks, FCCLA, and See-A-Dot Music Publishing. During the festival you will participate in public performances, enjoy concerts featuring some of LA’s top new music vocalists, collaborate closely with the NEO Voice Festival Ensemble, and attend numerous workshops throughout the week. Through these workshops and performances, you will expand your knowledge of voice research and composition with leaders in the field, deepen the understanding of your voice through the powerful lens of voice science, explore creativity through writing and presentation, and experience performing in a choir through the premiere of a brand new collaborative masterwork. |

Original Works
Our Original Works explore performance as a vehicle of personal and spiritual transformation for performers and audience alike, creating holistic works that engage the full body and voice of the performer and are both relational and emergent.
In defiance of the "isolated genius" trope, we engage in creation as a collective, community oriented process. Our pieces are based on the interplay between creators, performers, and audience as active participants in a final experience that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Beginning with the premiere of their first dance-opera Saharava at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2012, the Resonance Collective’s interdisciplinary theatrical pieces have been commissioned and produced by such organizations as the Cincinnati Ballet, Monmouth University, the California Institute of the Arts, the Beijing Dance Academy, Institute of the Arts Barcelona, and Peridance in New York.
